    • Additional Information:
    Scarecrow senses animals the same way security lights detect people; movement and heat. When an animal is seen, a valve opens instantly releasing a three second pulsating spray of water. The combination of the sudden noise, movement, and water frightens animals away.
     
    Why it Works

    The Scarecrow invokes a memorable and unpleasant form of deterrence through a combination of:

  • Sudden Unexpected Noise
  • Unexpected Movement
  • Water Spray

    • This unpleasant experience is quickly associated with the location. To avoid similar surprises they begin to avoid the area. While humans flee several steps after activating a Scarecrow motion activated sprinkler, animals are scared to a much greater degree, run much further and stay away longer.

    We attribute this difference in part to the inherent fight or flight survival  mechanism found in most animals and their lack of intelligence or ability to ‘figure out’ what caused the annoying noise and motion.

    Other reasons why the Scarecrow works:

    Q: How many Scarecrows should I use to protect my valuable Koi?
    A: We recommend two, positioned 90 degrees apart to create a 'cross-fire' over each 1000 square feet of pond.
    Important note: If you have persistent and very hungry animals or birds, fence in your Koi. We cannot accept responsibility for losses.

    Q: What's the Optional Mounting Bracket for?
    A: For installing up off the ground, ie: on post, building, tree etc., or on a board for ground level use. (note hand tools required)

    Q: Overall height?
    A: About 24 inches.

    Q: Does it have a Sensitivity adjustment?
    A: Yes.

    Q: Does it have on/off capabilities?
    A: Yes.

    Q: Does my water run continuously?
    A: No. A small amount of water is used only when the sprinkler is set off.
